[edit] The basics

June 14-18, 2010
Rochester Institute of Technology
B. Thomas Golisano College of Computing and Information Sciences (Bldg 70)
Room 2400 (big glass walled conf room on 2nd Floor)

[edit] Accommodation

Housing is on your own. For those coming from out of town, we have the option of pooling together as a group (at least 2 weeks before the event) and getting RIT dormitory space - details on that from RIT are posted below. (Feel free to edit and add additional recommendations/notes - this is a wiki, after all.)

  • All rooms are air-conditioned. All beds would be debunked.
  • Double and Triple occupancy rooms: $28.00 per person per night for the room, $16.20 (one-time-charge) for linens, $10 (one-time-charge) for debunking.
  • Single occupancy rooms: $33.00 per person per night for the room, $16.20 (one-time-charge) for linens, $10 (one-time-charge) for debunking.
  • Full linen set available for each guest. Includes two flat sheets, two towels, one cotton blanket, one pillow and one pillowcase. Linen package would be handed out individually to each person at check in.
  • Guests may wish to bring a lamp(s) since there is only one soft overhead light in the entry way of each room.
  • Community restrooms are located on each floor.
  • A community kitchenette that includes a microwave and sink is located on each floor and available at no cost.
  • Buildings are locked 24/7 for security purposes. POSSE participants would receive access cards for building and elevator access and keys for their rooms.
  • Check-in Sunday, June 13, 3-5pm.
  • Check-out Sunday, June 20 11am-1pm. (For those attending FOSSCon - I'm guessing out-of-towners may want to stay for that. For those leaving a day or two earlier, we would make alternate arrangements.)

"RIT’s Summer Housing Office does not have the capabilities to take individual reservations, like a hotel. To utilize this service you would need to take and process all room requests, and supply RIT with a guaranteed final count and rooming list 2 weeks in advance of the conference. POSSE would be billed for all rooms on the final event invoice which includes all of the charges from your event. Individual attendees would pay POSSE for their room." Note: We'd figure out the billing logistics... Paypal, if nothing else, I think. Mel Chua 16:18, 2 March 2010 (UTC)

[edit] FOSSCon

FOSSCon is being held at RIT immediately after POSSE (June 19); we'll be

  • POSSE participants will have a free dinner ticket to FOSSCon's pre-conference get-together on Friday.
  • FOSSCon will have a POSSE panel session where attendees of the RIT POSSE are welcome to come and speak about their recent experiences, their thoughts as a new participant in the open source world, and the kinds of resources they'll be looking for in the next school year that they'd like conference attendees to help them find. POSSE panel participants will get a free ticket to FOSSCon, and any POSSE attendees are welcome to be on the POSSE panel.
